progression of work

kestrel falcon

I love books, the ones where you can still turn the pages. These days I have been being gifted with some wonderful finds! The last book I have put into my collection is called Raptors and is the inspiration behind “The Kestrel Falcon”.

That and of course, as is wont to happen, after scouring the pages over and over nature gifted me again. On the way to work one day I saw a bird flying, managed to find a place to pull over to gawk and yes, as you guessed, a kestrel falcon!! In addition to that it was the first time I had ever seen one in the wild.

Needless to say I took this as a sign to begin work and it started the next day.

the horses

Ever since I began my love affair with copper I had always envisioned this piece. The inspiration came when I read Revelations in the Holy Bible. I wanted the horses to embody the personalities of the individual riders without actually having the riders there. My first attempt was early on when I had finally gotten my own “real” studio space. It was a failed attempt and ended in the recycle bin as did multiple successive attempts over the years.

It wasn’t until I was asked to create a herd of buffalo in February of 2014 that I came up with the technique that I would later use for the horses.
Even still there where many iterations and challenges along the way  yet after a year of perseverance and prayer, here they are.
